Frequently, back teeth, or molars have very deep pits and groves in them on the biting surface. These pits and grooves are very difficult to keep clean. Food bacteria and dental plaque can become trapped in these areas leading to tooth decay. Sealants offer an excellent measure to help prevent decay of these teeth. The sealant is applied in a non-invasive technique that cleanses and prepares the tooth surface for sealing without the use of needles or drills. The sealant liquid is then placed in the clean prepared grooves and fissures and instantly hardened with a special curing light.
